Hollywood Casino makes history with first legal sports bet

Hollywood Casino in West Virginia made history last week with the first legal sports bet in the state

Hollywood Casino has made history in West Virginia by accepting the first ever legal sports bet.

The casino's sportsbook had a soft launch last Thursday in preparation for a full weekend roll out.

The first ever legal sports bet in West Virginia was a $50 wager on the West Virginia University/Tennessee Mountaineers game.

The launch of the Hollywood Casino sportsbook falls in line with the start of the football season. And this promises to be a busy time for casino sportsbooks in general.

The remaining casinos in the state hope to have their own sports betting products live within the next couple of months. Mobile sports betting apps are soon to follow thereafter.

Penn National Gaming, operators of Hollywood Casino, saw $340,000 on the first Saturday of the highly anticipated college football season.

State officials hope that the new sports betting venture will open up significant revenue streams. A reserved figure of $5.5 million has been floated annually. But early estimates suggest that sports betting could bring in even more revenue - up to $17 million a year.

Since the overturning of PASPA, casinos around America have been keen to launch their own sports books in tandem with the upcoming football season. New Jersey casinos like Borgata Online Casino have recently launched a new app. While SugarHouse integrated sports betting into their online casino.
